Chim↑Pom

Chim↑Pom is an artist collective formed in Tokyo in 2005. Its members include Ellie, Ryuta Ushiro, Yasutaka Hayashi, Masataka Okada, Toshinori Mizuno, and Motomu Inaoka. The group’s extraordinary energy and ingenious ideas has prompted them to undertake an impressive array of unique, unpredictable projects. With themes encompassing cities, consumerism to gluttony and poverty, Japanese society, the atomic bomb, earthquakes, images of stardom, the mass media, borders, and the nature of what is public, their works project powerful messages on contemporary social phenomena and issues, while in large part also being laced with humor and irony.

Chim↑Pom has participated in many important exhibitions, festivals and biennials, including: “Threat of Peace (Hiroshima!!!!!!)”, Art in General, New York, NY (US, 2019); “Co/Inspiration in Catastrophes”, Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei (TW, 2019); “Japan Unlimited”, Museum Quartier Wien, Vienna (AT, 2019); “The Street. Where The World Is Made”, National Museum of the 21st Century Arts (MAXXI), Rome (IT, 2018); “Catastrophe and the Power of Art”, Mori Art Museum, Tokyo (JP, 2018); the Biennale de Lyon, Lyon (FR, 2017); “Non-Burnable”, Dallas Contemporary, Dallas, TX (US, 2017); “Negotiating the Future: 2017 Asian Art Biennale”, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taichung (TW, 2017); “SUPER RAT”, Saatchi Gallery, London, (UK, 2015); “Zero Tolerance”, MoMA PS1, New York, NY (US, 2014); “The Mirror and Monitor of Democracy in Asia,” Gwangju Museum of Art-Sangrok Exhibition Hall, Gwangju (KR, 2014); São Paulo Art Biennial (BR, 2017); “The 9th Shanghai Biennale,” Power Station of Art, Shanghai (CN, 2012).
