Taiwanese artist Yu Cheng-Ta, in collaboration with Tokyo-based independent art space ASAKUSA, is set to unveil the groundbreaking project “Fancy Fantasy!”

Starring the artist’s fictional persona, FAMEME, this three-day event will transform a pop-up host club in Kabukicho—Tokyo’s famed entertainment district known for its opulence and allure. FAMEME will serve as the charismatic host, inviting a vibrant ensemble of professional hosts, performing artists, musicians, and dancers to create an unforgettable spectacle. Attendees will be immersed in Tokyo’s unique cultural landscape and the seductive charm of its nightlife through an interactive stage experience. From a socially critical perspective, the project aims to transcend heteronormative norms in the entertainment industry, delving into the world of queer romance.

The event will also feature the world premiere of the music video “Fancy Fantasy!” This collaborative effort involves Japanese composer Yuka O., lyricist Maki Tezuka, and director Mateusu Katayama. The video draws inspiration from “Boy’s Love” pop culture, dramatizing a same-sex romance that blossoms within a host club setting. By blending fictional characters, meticulously designed spaces, and Kabukicho-style advertisements, the project underscores Yu Cheng-Ta’s core artistic theme of blurring the lines between reality and imagination.

Over the course of three days, “Fancy Fantasy!” will not only present the pop-up host club but also host a grand opening party featuring performers from diverse gender and cultural backgrounds, a Kabukicho walking tour, and an artist talk.
