Hung Tung-Lu

Hung Tung-Lu (b. 1968) currently lives and works in Tainan, Taiwan.
Hung graduated from the Graduate Institute of Plastic Arts Department of the Tainan National College of the Arts, Taiwan in 1999. In 2004, The ABSOLUT collection’s inclusion of Hung Tung-Lu’s work earned him the coveted spot as the first ever Taiwanese artist to work with the world-renowned spirits company on an advertisement named “Absolut Hong.” From his early period works which appropriate the commercial icons in pop art, such as Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon and Great Mazinger, to recent self-conceived @May humanoid idols, all his creations converge with the present pop culture, trying to manifest the pleasure-seeking ethos of the new generation.
Hong has participated in many important exhibitions and biennials, including: “Techniques of the Visible”, The 5th Shanghai Biennale, Shanghai (CN, 2004); “The Sky is the Limit”, The 2nd Taipei Biennial, Taipei (TW, 2000); The 48th Venice Biennale Taiwan Pavilion, Venice (IT, 1999).
